Hey everyone!

As I mentioned in the title i'm upgrading my CPU after a hiccup at Amazon where they sent me a 4590 instead of a 4690k and wanted to make sure i'm ok for the future and getting the best value for money.

My options aren't limited to the 4690k and 4790k, they're just the two CPUs i've been looking at.

My work includes a lot of 3D modelling software, but honestly the rig I have at the moment is fine for the stuff that I do so the main reason is gaming.

So I guess my question is, for future proofing would it be worth it to fork out the extra £100 or so? Or will the 4690k be sufficient for a while to come?

Or can you point me towards anything better? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

4790K or 6700k, if you can afford the 6700k, the ddr4 ram etc and z170 chipst are pretty decent. But 4790K is just as good. I use my system for CAD stuff etc and its never faltered me, pairing it with lots of high speed RAM is even better

I7 4790k, or I7 6700K ... it's pretty the same, skylake one is newer, uses ddr4 and is a bit stronger, depends on tasks you are doing. Anyway, I7 is way better than I5 for 3D modelling

Thanks for the replies guys, the 6700k is out for me though I think as it would require a new motherboard.

At the minute my work doesn't stress my current computer, I work mainly with games so it's nothing crazy on my system. So I was just wondering in terms of games is it actually worth it to go for the 4790k or will the 4690k last me for a few years?

The i5-4690K will absolutely be fine for the next few years and beyond. The difference in gaming between the two is insignificant for the most part right now. I own both with a moderate OC and I can't tell the difference most of the time between them. The worst CPU pig of a game I have at the moment is Fallout 4 and the i7 is ever so slightly smoother in a few spots.
