Adding a new drive, need answers

Guys im going to add another internal drive to my pc and i already have one with installed operating system. So i was wondering if i could open the new drive without formatting it? Would windows let me open it?

p.s i have files on that other drive

Just install the second drive (power and SATA cables); then use "Disk Management" to initialize it; then format it; then it can be used for storage. Your existing internal drive has the Windows system installed on it already, and it will recognize the new disk and allow you to use it.
