Ok ill publish this and then I will edit to ensure it's the length i want...

So Im pretty decent at putting together factory made computer parts, with the instruction manual, but I dont really know what the problem is with my computer. It was a frankenstein; i got most of my parts new from Frys Electronics.

I will be happy to provide a list of my parts if someone could assist me in finding that information (cause im not going to take the computer apart just to know what brand of every item is installed?)

I like to play videogames with high pull on my resources, such as Starcraft2, and although at medium settings my graphics are pretty good and my FPS is good (60FPS) if im running anything else in the background its inevetable that in a few minutes or a few hours my computer will just randomly shut down in the middle of games. Especially with Starcraft, Youtube, and voice chat.

Any help is appreciated!

TL;DR Noob wants to fix his computer by identifying which parts are out of date and which are still OK.

ok. the upgrades I can recommend: go do a BIOS update on your motherboard ($free) -- the model should be written on the board itself. take off the cover to see.

with the bios updated, you can upgrade the CPU to either an FX 6300 ($90) (6 core) or FX 8300 ($120) (8 core), both are 95W parts, safest choice not knowing your exact motherboard,

then a GTX 950 ($150) or if you can swing it a GTX 960 2 GB($180) or R9 380 4GB ($190). - with teh 950 and either CPU, you can run most games at 1920x1080 on High. the 960/380 will allow most games to run on ultra at playable rates

Not sure how to do a BIOS update but ill be googling that
heres my motherboard

Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3

match the version \on your motherboard and install the bios. among other fixes, it will make sure it can identify the newer chips.

the motherboard standoffs are physical items holding the motherboard up off the case. they're usually brass or plastic to be non-conductive. since you are getting static from your usb, something is potentially short circuiting. if nothing is obvious there, replace the PSU. theres a XFX 400W model (yes, enough, if only just) thats on sale. very good quality PSU.
