I can't connect to a new modem. 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.254 don't work.

It's just a straight swap of modems, no router involved. When I do ipconfig, I get 169.254.216.120 as the default gateway.

I tried
Resetting modem
Switching cables
Disable/Enable Nic
Enable/Disable DHCP service.

Solution
Yeah, it looks like DHCP (or the entire router / modem) isn't working. When Windows doesn't get a response from a DHCP server, it assigns a 169.254.xxx.xxx address to itself.

At this point I suspect you Alcatel modem is bricked. If you can't reset it, and you can't reach the administration page it's likely that it not working.

One thing you could try is to assign your computer (ethernet interface) a static IP in the range the router portion of your modem would assign. Then try and access the administration page. So if the DHCP gives IP addresses in the 192.168.1.1XX range, pick something like 192.168.1.102 (just for instance) set a netmask of 255.255.255.0 and make your gateway the IP address of the administration page (most...

Both the speedtouch 516 and alu 7130 are modems, directly plugged in. I hit the reset switch for 5 seconds until it rebooted, also tried holding it down for 30 seconds aswell to no avail.

I'm going to try uninstalling/reintalling the nic, just for the hell of it.

Well technically the 7130 is a modem / router. It operates as both since it assigns internal (192.168.xxx.xxx) IP addresses. If it were strictly a modem, you could connect only one or two (depending on your internet package with your ISP) computers and they would get external IP addresses.

Do you have more than one computer to try to connect with the 7130? That would quickly eliminate the PC as the culprit. Although the fact that it worked with the Speedtouch likely already confirms that it's the 7130.

Have you manually tried to do an IP refresh via the command prompt?

Once this is all done, try and go to the administration page.
