Western Digital external hard drive issue

Hello, I have recently changed computers as my original one died, now i don't have permission to access anything on my WD ext. storage device. I have tried to change it in the setting, however it does not work. Any advice will be appreciated.

That is unpleasant. :(
Well, you can take ownership of the drive and then grant permissions. Check this extensive tutorial out: http://www.preyerplanning.com/take-ownership-of-entire-hard-drive-in-windows-7.pdf
In case the issue persists, you can boot up Ubuntu from a CD or a flash drive, access the drive, back up all the data stored on it and repartition and reformat it. Here's a thread on the Ubuntu Live CD approach: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/267999-32-recover-data-mode

After all this, it will not hurt to test the drive with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool(both short and extended tests). The results will show you the overall health status of the drive...

Hi D_Know_WD,
Thank you for your answer.
I followed the instructions and it works, however i got a pop up at the end for every single file in it saying access is denied.
Apart from smashing it, any ideas now?
I work a lot from home in the evenings, and it has all of my work on it, so i am stuck without it. I am so frustrated.
