Is it Even Worth It?

Hello! I am thinking about getting this card. Is it even worth the money? I understand it is at such a low price right now. This is what the rest of my build will look like. Tell me what you guys think. I am coming from a console so I hope this will outperform the Xbox One by miles. Also what kind of frame rates should I be expecting on ultra settings in maybe Cod, CS:GO, and GTA? Thanks!

Also, I am planning on doing some video rendering for my Xbox. Thanks again!

390 is about 95% of a 390x in gaming. 970 is about 80-95% of the 980. from memory. it will vary game to game. The 970 OC's very well and can probably match a 980, like the 390 can match a stock 390x with an OC. My OC'd 390 gets very close the 390x firestrike score.

The R9 390X 8GB is a serious piece of kit. 8GB is more than enough for games like CSGO, you should get about 250+ FPS on CSGO with everything at its highest as for GTA you will be in the 150+ FPS depending on how demanding you want the graphics but for sure will be amazing gameplay. You will properly be able to install a lot of mods on single player to improve the graphics.

The 8GB is more than enough , especially coming from a console. I would recommend maybe getting something a little lower spec and then upgrade your CPU.

hope this helps

What about my psu. I had people commenting elsewhere that my psu is pretty poor. I might go with 8GB and get a better psu.

Yes a better PSU or a higher Watt PSU is always better. Just make sure that you get something from a decent brand and make sure the model is designed for big graphics cards. You DO NOT want to get a high watt cheap PSU because it will proberly blow up and burn of blow something in your system.

Yes that should do the trick, that PSU is very well reviewed. As someone has commented from PCPartPicker "Highly rated, stable, provides plenty of power. Fully modular." The Modular design will allow you to only use the cables you need and will save a lot of space and will look aesthetically pleasing in your CoolerMaster Pro 5 Case with the window, You will be able to run only the cables needed and remove the ones you don't need.

Here is a link to an article about the power draw from the R9 390x. Hope this helps !

That's actually not a good price, i've seen 290X (it's the same card) cards go for about $250 about a year ago, 300 would be a good price, i'd rather buy a GTX 970 for $300 than a 390x for $400.

Yeah that's a decent price for a 980, but if you want the max bang for your buck buy a 970 or 390/290 for about $150 less.

How much would I be lacking in performance?

Between 5 and 15 fps, normally about 8 fps.

That seems like a lot, considering its under the 80fps range. All I want is my game to play smoothly, and have very nice settings.

A 390x will perform slightly better than a stock the 390, same for 980 vs 970. However, you are paying ALOT more for the small increase. Honestly, unless you go to the 980ti, FuryX range, the 390 and 970 are best bang for buck in the £250 category, and both can be OC'd (although the 970 much more so) for free.
