Does router affect wired performance?

I'm struggling to find a clear answer on this as everything links to wireless speeds.

When I see routers getting rated, it seems to be done soley based on the wireless ability of it. However, I have no interest at all in that, in fact in my current setup I have absolutely no use for wireless and so would rather not have it if it put the price down. I was wondering if some routers were better than others if only used wired. This would be for ping to Internet rather than local devices. Also assuming that there was only 1 device using it. So wire comes out of wall, into router, into pc. Does the router limit anything?

Solution
The only difference would be if you had 100BaseT ports or 1000BaseT ports (100 Meg or Giga ports) this would effect your theoretical throughput but very little to no effect on your latency. (I would imagine that even 100BaseT is superior to your broadband connection anyway).
