Ok so i have a r9 390 and i have a opportunity to have a r9 390x for about the samenprice but if i crossfire those two would the 390x settle down for the 390's speed of can they both run independently of each other?

Solution
I dont really know to be honest, the most I could dig up is that it will work. They will both run at the same clock speed so if your 390 has a lower base clock then the 390x its going to run at the slower speed, unless you overclok them of course. But as far as if it will use the extra shading units, texture mapping units and stuff like that in the 390x I really dont know, if somebody has the answer I would like to know im curious as well. Best I can say is put the 390x in the top slot as the first card and maybe it will.

Sounds about right. My initial assumption was that it would utilize all the shading units, but then again there is a chance it won't. Interesting.
