So... currently have a Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 with a Radeon HD7850 in it, and I'm thinking it's time for a new card. Looking at getting a Radeon R9 390X.

Problem is - looking at the length and height that might be needed for the 390X, I'm concerned I won't be able to seat the new card (the 390X) all the way because my current card, the HD7850, is touching the top of the SATA ports. The HD7850 (from Asus btw) is a little bit thinner in the back at the coils/fan enclosure compared to the 390X, which appears to maintain card width for its entire length.

I'm worried I'm gonna go out, but the 390X, and not be able to get it to seat all the way in the mobo's PCI Express slot because the card will be too long, and the SATA height will be the blocker.

Any tips on how to determine if the 390X will fit?

Thanks in advance!

It'll fit, and it'll seat fine. That is the standard design placement for SATA headers on modern boards. It is designed for any long card to pass over. The cards are designed the same. If any card didn't fit, Asus would have been in a world of hurt ;-)
