Lacking USB 2.0 Headers on M/Board but looking for workarounds to connect NZXT Hue+

Hey

Hoping to get some help.

I am looking to add the Hue+ to my case but alas my motherboard does not come with any USB 2.0 headers :(

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VIII Impact
Lighting: NZXT Hue+
Case: Corsairs 380T

I am wondering if I could use a splitter on the USB 3.0 header and then use an adapter to convert one of the splits to USB 2.0:

Splitter: http://www.moddiy.com/products/20%252dPin-USB-3.0-Internal-Header-Y-Splitter-Cable-%2812cm%29.html?
Adapter: http://www.moddiy.com/products/USB-3.0-to-USB-2.0-Internal-Adapter-Cable-%2819pin-to-9pin%29.html

Complete build: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Destinar/saved/FpjTwP

This would mean the 3.0 header would have the front panel usb ports and hue+ usb cable connected to the one header via the splitter/adapter.

I've looked on a fair few threads but there seems to be conflicting advise on using a splitter let alone an adapter on top.

Wondering if anyone could advise on potential issues I may run into or if this could damage the motherboard/terrible idea?

Sorry if this doesn't make much sense, first time PC builder.

Cheers

Solution
Yes it should work because each USB port can handle something like 48 USB devices connected to it.
But you are trying to do something very few people have tried before as well.
If you weren't using a mini-itx case/mobo the simple solution would be to get an internal expansion card for USB 2.0 connectors.

Update: So after hooking up the splitter & adapter, all seems to be working fine with Hue+ * touchwood *. Did run into an issue where the Cam software wasn't installing drivers but got it working in the end.
