How much RAM do I need for the new system I'll have soon, if I'm going to do the following with it?

I plan on doing some video editing and mainly web editing along with gaming.
What's the recommended RAM for my intended use of my new system I'll get soon?

I already have the build specs planned out except for the RAM, because I thought of getting just 12GB for it, but I need to be able to do some fluid gaming and edit videos without problems.

Best is to get 16GB and in a 2x8GB set unless going X99 which would prefer 4x4GB to give best DRAM performance. Also, 12GB would consist of mixing packages of DRAM which is never a good idea, even if identical packages. What mobo and CPU and we can suggest some good sets for you

1. Is your mobo rated for DDR3 and/or DDR4?
2. Most AAA games require no more than 8GB of RAM. BUT if you can support and afford 16GB, (No less than 12GB) then I would get it. Better to have a little more than you need.

I did heavy media/video editing and gaming on my old rig that had 12GB DDR3 and I had no issues.
