This is the first time I've ever built and bought a PC on my own and I am having difficulty trying to figure out exactly why there is no signal input to my monitor. I can assume the computer itself is working properly because the fans are whirring, lights are turning on and the keyboard and mouse are lighting up. It's just that the monitor itself is not detecting a signal.

First off I want to mention that I received all my parts today and realized that my motherboard did not come with a speaker so I'm pretty much trying to troubleshoot all this blind until the new speaker comes this Friday.

Anyway at first I thought it was just the specific graphics card I was using. The only monitor I have is an old one with only 1 VGA port in the back and I have an AMD FirePro W5100 that came with a DVI adaptor. So I went to Best Buy and grabbed a DVI to VGA adaptor but there was no signal sent from my computer to the monitor. To made sure the cables and the monitor worked, I borrowed the computer my brother has that had a DVI port and needless to say that worked.

I know the peripherals are working so it's probably a set up issue or something with the parts themselves... Which frightens me because I bought everything new and built it all today.

Things I've done:
1. Made sure motherboard was installed correctly in the spacers.
2. Removed all the components and made sure each and every one was seated properly.
3. Read the MoBo manual and made absolutely sure all the power connections were correctly placed.
4. Bought a DVI to VGA cord AND DVI to VGA adaptor and tried with the monitor.
5. Tested the monitor and the cords on a different computer to made sure they worked.
6. Tried booting the computer with only 1 stick of RAM at a time.
7. Cleared the CMOS.
