I found a webcam on newegg that claims to be REALLY good for the price. It's $25, does 4k pictures, and 1600x1200 video at 30fps. For $25 that's a steal. The manufacturer is Corn. Model number is DZ-SXT-001.

I'd say it's a real seller and you'd get a real webcam...just not sure how well it would work.

Looks like Amazon has that for $38 - http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Webcam-Portable-Calling-Autofocus/dp/B004WO8HQ4

I've always had good luck with logitech accessories (using a logitech keyboard, mouse and speakers on the PC I'm on now in fact).

I would say if something seems to good to be true it probably is. There are multiple conflicting statements in the description. It's also sold not by Newegg, but by CORN itself.

Microsoft has a few cams in the $30 range that can do 720p at 30fps from legit sellers, go there if needed.

Look at digital cameras. A free cellphone can have 25Megapixels and take so so pictures. Or you can get a fancy Nikon digital SLR that is only 8 megapixels with a $4000 lense and take amazing national geographic quality pictures.

When it comes to imaging it's all about the lense, the auto focus, the lighting, white balance, etc.... If you want a good webcam go with Logitech, they are the best. Microsoft makes a good value one, but the logitechs are better at a higher price point.

The 1600x1200 spec of the camera just means that it will capture whatever light gets through the lense at that resolution. Paint the lense black and it will capture black just fine, but I don't think your friend on the other end wants to see black. Understood. If it's out of focus that's no good either.

You need a good lense and glass costs money. With cameras there is a saying, $500 for a camera body and a small fortune for the glass. That's why a logitech is $100.
