The FX 6300 is faster for single thread and multi threaded workloads. Neither is as fast as modern Intel i5's and i7s. If you must go amd get a FX-83XX cpu. It won't cost that much more than a FX-6300

Getting FX-8 over a FX-6 presents no tangible increase in performance when overclocked. When running in stock the advantage the FX-8 gives only in the range of 5-15% of advantages in multitasking workloads or rendering over an FX-6 but compared to Intel that is already offset by those quadcore i5/i7-3xxx and above with strong per core IPC. To fully ultilize an FX-6xxx, one needs to overclock it ;). An A8 is not worth it aside from the PCI-E 3.0, the dGPU inside the chip and able to accept faster RAM (up to 2400mhz DDR3, beneficial if he is using the onboard GPU)
