Please tell me whether this build is compatible

Planning to make the switch from laptop to desktop.

Currently I am thinking of using;
Processor: intel i7 6700
Graphics: Asus 4GB R9 380x
RAM: Corsair Veangence LRX 1x8GB
Motherboard: MSI h81m E34 LGA

I'm very new to this and was wondering if the motherboard will be able to support the DDR4 RAM. Is it also possible to combine any SSD to this build (and would this be worthwhile)?

Is 1x8GB of RAM better than 2x4GB?

My intention for this build is to have a desktop that will last me a while as well as be able to cope with future programs/games

Much appreciated

First problem is buying an I7-6700 for gaming (if the purpose is gaming, which I assume) with a 380X. Getting an I5-6500 with a GXT 970 or R9 390 is a much wiser option. That H81 motherboard is incompatible with 6th Gen CPUs. You need an H110, H170, Z170, C232, or C236 board to work with the 6th Gen Core I processors.

You should always buy two sticks of RAM> It allows them to run in dual-channel for increased bandwidth (it's rare to find a board that doesn't support this). And based on your current parts, I'm assuming the PSU choice will need some work once we see that. ;)

Thank you turkey panda for the reply :)
Could you please elaborate as to why an i7-6700 with a 380X is a bad idea?

Hmm i suppose choosing a diff motherboard is another solution then.

Indeed, will a 650W PSU suffice? (hopying PSU stands for power supply unit lol)

Much thanks again

Because it's not spending your money wisely. A better GPU will give you a better gaming experience than a better CPU. No reason to go overkill on the CPU; try to make your budget to get the best GPU you possibly can. An I5-6500 is plenty for gaming.

I'd get an H110 motherboard. Gigabyte GA-H110M-A is $50 and will suffice very well with the I5. Then you should be able to get a GTX 970 or R9 390.

As for the PSU, rated wattage does not matter, quality matters. The EVGA 550W G2 is high quality, if you get a GTX 970, a Seasonic S12ii 520W is great. If you get an R9 390, something like an FSP Hydro G 650W is a good option, or for a bit cheaper you can get the EVGA GQ 650W (less good quality, but still a good performer).

Thanks again turkey3 :)

for the H110M-A motherboard it says the memory standard is DDR4 2133, does this mean any DDR4 RAM I purchase must be at 2133? I found a good price for a vengeance LPX DDR4-2400...will this be compatible with the motherboard? If so, would this also be a better pick than the 2133?

Much thanks
