Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3 Memory Upgrade: Thoughts and Suggestions?

Good morning!

I presently have a Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3 motherboard with an Intel i5-2500k processor. My current memory is 2x4gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600. While attempting to play The Division last night, Windows 10 was notifying me that I was low on system memory (the game was using around 6-7gb)... odd, figured I had enough. So it's time to look at an upgrade, and I have the following questions:

1) I've seen on these boards that the "sweet spot" for my processor is DDR3 1600. Can someone confirm this?
2) Will I notice a benefit of going up to DDR3 2133 which the motherboard says it accepts?
3) Do I have the modify the BIOS so that it will run faster than 1333MHz (where it's running at right now)?
4) If I shouldn't upgrade memory speed, should I buy 2 more 4gb Corsair Vengeance? Or should I just buy 2x8gb of a different memory?

Thanks!

The memory doesn't care about the system bus on 1155, you have a BCLK (baseclock of 100) and can run DRAM from 1066 -2133 (+/-). With your CPU at 4GHz I'd say 1866 would be a good option, might even run 2133 if you want. Getting another 2x4GB of what you have would in effect be mixing, yes, even of same exact model. DRAM in a package has sticks that have been tested to play nice, might pull 5 right off the assembly line and find only 3 that will all play together, so for 16GB would suggest a pack of 2x8GB ;)

Im not ansering all of your questions but your cpu possibly supports up to 1866 mhz without overclocking and for games ot doesn't matter, i have tested multiple games with 1333, 1600 and 1866 mhz and the highest diffrence was 2fps.

Thanks Dylan

I would suggest getting another set of 2x 4 and then you would have 16 and no mem issues and try to run them at 1600 for the settings you should be good to go new games use more memory then the older games did .. btw does the game have a single player mode or story mode thanks and enjoy!

Thanks johnny. The game doesn't appear to have a single player mode. Think of it like another WoW type game, where you run around completing quests for experience and weapon upgrades working your way towards end game content.

Are you OCing the CPU at all - in part that will help determining what data rate you can run. I'd suggest 2x8GB as there are no guarantees when mixing packages of DRAM. Then can always try adding the old, if it plays with the new it's a bonus, else you can sell it to recoup some of your expenditure or put them in another rig. The Sniper and Ripjaws X were the best lines of DRAM I found for the 1155 mobos/CPUs

Thanks for letting me know because steam has it listed as a single player mode and since you own the game you would know.. Again thanks

Tradesman, I was OCing to 4GHz but that was it. This Mobo is a bit more in depth to my options, not as simple as doing the hertz and multiplier.

If I got the 2x4 of the exact same memory, would that be fine? I wasn't going to mix. I know the bus on the Mobo was 1333, not 1600 even thoough the memory is 1600.
