TP-LINK Modem Router
Model No.: TD-W8970
Ver:1.2

ISP: South West Internet CIC

I live in a rural area and I'm too far from a telephone exchange, so I use an overground radio microwave service provided by South West Internet CIC in the UK, and I have used the above modem router for 2-3 years.

South West Internet CIC has upgraded their system from Star OS to Ubiquity, and the router needs to be re-configured.

I am unable to access the router's configuration utility and I would appreciate full instructions please, on how to do this.

I am NOT very techno-savvy, PLEASE can instructions be as clear as possible.

Thanks in anticipation.

For some reason the userID 'admin' wouldn't give me access, so I assumed it had been changed before and I tried every possible variation; but lo and behold, 'admin' finally worked :) So I have access, and being totally non-IT savvy, now have screenshots of all the pages/details of its current settings for easier cross-reference should it be necessary to reset to factory settings.

The equipment provided by SWI is a small radio dish, with receiver - like a small version of a Sky TV dish. The (ethernet) cable comes straight to the ADSL2+ modem router, via the LAN4/WAN socket.

(Before the upgrade, the dish had been an older model, with receiver and cable going to an indoor magic box containing radio card and electronics, from which the ethernet cable was connected to the same router - this worked fine but really was out-of-date equipment). I was told that the upgrade from StarOS to Ubiquity may require re-configuring the modem-router.

The modem-router is mine and not provided by SWI.

It should be straight-forward to reset factory settings and fill in all the boxes, but I don't have the IT knowledge to be able to make corrections. I can hardly remember what ADSL stands for let alone all the other abbreviations! On top of that, I have a Mac and the manual only talks about PCs. So me-thinks I could easily screw things up!!
