I'm thinking about building a new pc for gaming purposes and plan to put it in a room upstairs.

I haven't used a desktop in a very long time and everytime i sit up there with my laptop the internet is horrible and cuts away a lot. I think an ethernet cable is the best solution for the bad internet but i don't want to have some cable running over the floor and stairs.

I would like to know if there's a better solution than the cable or if i can get the ethernet cable not to run over the floor and stairs. I know very little about networking so if you can explain it to me in the simplest way you can, i'll be thankfull.

Thank you in advance.

Solution
A quality Ethernet cable can be quite long.
I have one 50 feet long that exits via a hole in the exterior wall and enters downstairs via another hole.

Another solution might be to use your house wiring.
There are kits that will do this, but I do not know how well they work.

One reason for bad wifi is poor antennas that a laptop will have.
If your new build has a good dedicated wifi card with a strong antenna, you might get good performance.
If your wifi router downstairs is not high speed and capable, then perhaps that should be upgraded to latest tech.
Ethernet cable is the best. Powerline adapters can work but that is hot or miss depending on the wiring in your house.

For not running over stairs it is a little tiny wire you can mount to the wall/ceiling drill holes to pass through whatever you want really.

Solution

As you already surmised, this is a simple CABLING deal. Most reliable and maximum performance. If you can't drill into walls, never done home improvement, not allowed to, then the POWERLINE solution as mentioned.
