CPU too hot?

I got a 5820k after my 4790 died, and I can't help but feel it's running hotter than it should. Even at stock speeds, after a few seconds of Prime95 the CPU is at 92°C! The cooler is a Thermaltake Water 3.0 Ultimate. During games, the temperature never exceeds 65°C though, which is still high considering the cooler, I think.

Do not run prime95 on processors that have the AVX instruction set. The CPU dynamically increases the voltage when prime executes AVX code. The temp is normal for Prime95+AVX but it is way too hot.

You should use X264 stress test. https://www.dropbox.com/s/qjn1gddvet100wn/x264%20Stability%20Test%20V2.rar?dl=0

The link is from my personal dropbox.

I prefer 70* and less but will accept 80*C and less. Once I go over 80* I take action. 90*C is technically safe but you should be concerned.

92°C is definitely in danger zone, but prime 95 doesn't represent real life scenario. If your cpu temps don't go over 65 during gaming, then its completely normal. The TDP of 5820k is 140 watts compared to 84 watts of 4790. So yours is pretty normal situation.

I'm using the latest version. Also, I've been using some generic Cooler Master thermal paste, and I ordered some Arctic Silver last night. There should be a drop in temperature there (I hope).

Do NOT use Prime95 more modern than 26.6. so lets forget that.

65C under normal gaming is a bit higher than I would expect, but a lot depends on waterblock installation, fan speed, in-case airflow if the radiator is an exhaust, and case placement, room airflow, and ambient temperature. (and pet hair :) )

Hello... With thermal paste "Less is better" the best thermal transfer contact is metal to metal... And just a thin film across your CPU and heat sink will fill the surface microscopic Pits and not prevent metal to metal contact. But if the CPU lid and Heatsink are not Flat to each other, more thermal paste is needed to fill the bad mating surfaces, and you will see high temps. It is not un-common for People to Dress and LAP those surfaces for precise/better surface mating.
The Artic Silver uses silver particles in it, and will help best with bad mating surfaces.

No pet hair, lucky me. Ambient temperature of the room is 27°C, radiator is an exhaust from the top of the case, room airflow is virtually nonexistent. The fans are spinning at full speed (2000 RPMs) pretty much all the time.

Hello... Ya having 80F room air is tuff too cool with... As the Laws of Physics ( Thermal Dynamics ) dictate... you can not cool lower than what you are using to cooling with. B ) next step is a portable Freon Water Pump cooler... very common in the Industrial environment.

Having 80F room air is pretty good at cooling 180F liquids in a radiator.

Hello... The Engine and fuel system need higher temperatures to work... The thermostat maintains a high water temperature, Yes there is larger water capacity, water flow, and Copper/alum cooling fin area... and Could maintain Cooler temps... But your Engine and fuel system would run like crap. It is typical to change your Thermostat between Seasons to maintain a good running engine for your fleet.

When you see all that steam coming off of factory roofs, that their 'water Cooling' towers... They run water cooling piping all over the buildings for various equipment... massive PUMPs and water Pits. Air Cooling alone would not keep up with the High pace of heat generating processes.

A 10°F difference in room temperature won't get me the 20°C difference I'm looking for.

My idle temps are where my load temps should be.

Edit: It's idling in the upper 40s/lower 50s

One of the tubes certainly feels warmer than the other, but I wouldn't describe either as cool.

I cleaned out the radiator this morning and the fans are all pushing air through the radiator quite nicely. I can feel the air coming out the other side.

Maybe your fans are spinning too slow or there is insufficient air going through them, or the intake air is just too hot. I'm not there to see. The radiator works best when the incoming air is as cool as possible and the radiator cools best when there is plenty of air.

The fans are spinning at their full 2000 rpms

Inside the case is 28C, and opening the side panel doesn't help at all.
