My GTX 980Ti is alot better than on paper, why?

Iff you look at the Pixel fill rate, on paper it claims to be ''96.0 GPixel/s'' But it's higher ( 102.0 Gpixel/s Sometimes it goes up to 117.

Same with Texel rate it should be ''176 GTexel/s'' But it's higher. ( 186.9 GTexel/S ) Also goes up to 209 GTexel/s sometimes)

Is it normal? I haven't overclocked, when i overclock it goes even higher.
Someone else with a 980Ti G1 gaming has this?

If you went out and picked up 10 gtx 980ti's in the same line they would all have the same base clock speed(default pre boost), but the boost would be different for each(or most.). Some may be better while others could be worse.

This is because each gpu is tested and a clock speed is set for them(On the Nvidia side. it is a bit different on the AMD side). Some cards simply run into a power limit sooner and do not clock as high. You will also notice in some games the card may clock higher than others(if you hit the power limit or temperature limit).

As long as you have no issues, do not worry about it.

Many graphics card variants, such as your G1 Gaming, come factory overclocked. The paper specs you listed are for a GTX 980 Ti at stock clocks (1000/1075 core/boost). Your card has 1190/1291 core/boost clock (assuming you have it in "OC mode"). So your performance will be proportionally higher. For example: (1291/1075)*176=211 GTexel/s, which is more or less what you're seeing.

I don't know how much this would vary among similarly clocked cards. I would imagine every G1 Gaming 980 Ti would have virtually the same results.
 
Binning on higher end cards should bring them closer, but that boost may still be a bit different.

For example when I bought a GTX 670 it was listed with a boost of 1085, but it in fact has a boost of 1176 while another one was 1215(but pushing those power limits to the max). I am sure some of them are stuck closer to 1085.

A MSI GeForce GTX 980TI LIGHTNING lists 1304, but techpower had it reaching 1493 in tests(again power and temperature permitting)

I saw a guy had a ASIC of 65% on his g1 gaming. So probably Nukemaster is right, not all cards are equall

I was running this card at -90Mhz ECO mode, i was afraid of power problems. But now i have it on OC mode it can go up to 1300 MHZ and the Gtexels go up to 210 p/s and 122.0 Gpixel/s. I don't want to go higher without liquid cooling. But Now i know it's all good i run it at 1350 Mhz, getting alot more FPS. So happy with this card

Oh yeah, I realize that the silicon lottery is very much a thing. So overclocking potential will vary by card. But I figured that factory overclocked cards would be guaranteed to run at their advertised speeds, and that silicon quality would only come into play if you wanted to overclock further. Maybe I was wrong.

That being said, most of what I've read about ASIC quality seems to be speculation and anecdotal evidence. Don't think I've ever seen anything that could be considered empirical evidence showing ASIC quality (as reported by something like GPU-Z) determining overclocking and/or overall chip performance.


What kind of temperatures are you seeing with that overclock?

My card never gets hotter than 50C at 1440p, at 100% fan speed it even drops to 46 under full load When playing on 4k resolution it can go up to 55 / 58C MAX at idle the card is 30C sometimes 28. Most people use it on AUTO mode and the fans will start spinning at 60C,

I could probably overclock this card alot more, but ill wait a year or so when im not that happy about it anymore. for now i can run anything at 50/60 fps on 4k resolution. Some games even 80/100 fps
