Hello,

I’ve been searching around various forums and cites but cannot seem to find a definitive answer to my particular situation. Ideally I’d like to be able to play all games (including new titles) on Ultra at a Stable 60fps.

Here is my current setup:
MOBO: Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 (Micro ATX)
CPU: AMD FX-6300 6-core @ 3.5 GHz (with stock cooler)
RAM: 8 GB (4GB x2) DDR3 1600Mhz
GPU: NVidia GTX 960 2 GB VRAM
PSU: EVGA 500W 80+
Display: 55’ LG 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz

I’m considering upgrading both my CPU and my GPU, but don’t have the funds to upgrade them simultaneously. I’m hoping to spend no more than $300-400 on each upgrade.

1) I’m currently looking at a z97 board and 212 EVO cooler, with an i5 4690k. (was originally thinking i7 4790k, but its $120 more just for hyper threading).

2) I’m also looking at upgrading the gtx 960 to a 970 SSC (was originally thinking 980 ti, but I only play on a 60hz 1080p screen).

I’m not exactly sure what I need to upgrade first though. I’ve been reading around on the FX-6300 and half the things I read say it will bottle neck a gtx 960, other half says it won’t bottle neck even a gtx 970.

Basically I’m wondering which upgrade will give me the most performance increase.
Or am I completely wrong with the upgrade choices? Should i be aiming for something else?

TLDR: Which upgrade will add the most FPS: FX6300 to i5 4690k OR gtx 960 to 970 SSC?

1) The Intel 6th Gen series requires DDR4, so i'd have to fork out another $40-80 for new ram if i did that. And the board/cpu itself is gonna cost ~$50 more than the 4th gen version. (Not sure the $90-130 prince increase would be worth the marginal performance increase, but I'm no expert).

2) I'm also not sure if Pascal will be in my price range or not. New tech tends to be expensive. Plus we don't have a firm release date yet.
