I am a moderate to heavy gamer and looking to upgrade from 8 gb of 1600 cas 9 ram to a 16gb set.

My spec are i5 4690 k with MSi gaming 5 z97 mobo
msi gtx 980 gpu.

The 2400 is £5 cheaper but not the cas is high and need more volts 1.65. IS there a performance difference? or should I just buy the cheapest, which in this case is the 2400 mhz.

Also can you under clock to 2400 to run at , say 1866 with lower cas timings ?

Cheers

It really often depends on the game itself, more and more games are utilizing DRAM DRAM and it can improve performance, Fallout 4 gets better with faster DRAM, and as mentioned more and more you will see other games benefiting from fast sticks

There are many games where a higher memory clock will effect the games FPS dramatically. If you after for FPS then go with the 2400Mhz RAM moduels. Either way you are going to get an upgrade either from the 8GB to 16GB of ram or the 16GB of ram and more FPS depending on the game. Go with 2400Mhz.

Make sure you turn on XMP in your BIOS as you may not be using the fill bandwidth of your RAM. I notice that when my ram was running at 1333Mhz and not 1600Mhz :)

Hope this Helps :D

just another quick one, CMY16GX3M2A2400C11R this ram runs at 1.65 volts. Am I right in saying z97 I5 4690k should run at 1.5? IS there any complication ruining at 1.65 as corsair xmp this ram to 1.65?
