Hi,

I found it hard to search for my problem so I thought I'd post it here.

I am currently trying to fix an asus laptop of a relative (asus k53s).
The problem they had: everything was super slow/crashing. Booting was just fine, but whenever booted I couldn't do a thing. Rightclick worked after 5 mins of waiting, could not start a command prompt. Could go to task manager but wasn't seeing anything strange.
In safe mode everything was slow as well. Could see installed apps after 10 mins of lagging, but didn't see anything new installed for last couple of months.

What I tried then: running back to previous build did not work, trying to automatically fix problems with windows 7 boot image did not work, basically nothing worked.

So I formatted the C drive and fresh installed windows 7. But then after it was finished and had to restart, I only got a black screen for hours. I resetted the pc and never got anything more than a black screen. Can't do anything now, tried an external monitor but was also black. Fan is spinning though.

Can anyone help me with this? I lastly tried resetting the cmos battery, and applied some new coolingpaste in the meanwhile. Still black screen.

Solution
thank you you for getting back with an update, sounds like you may still have so work to do but at least you are getting there. should just be a reinstall with the correect copy of windows 7 and job done.

Thank you for your response!
Both HDD and fan are spinning, no beeps and no flashing lights.
Oh, and when the power is plugged in, the laptop keeps turning itself on after I force shut it down.

Update for those who wanted to know.

I placed the hdd in another pc and copied the files to an external hdd. Then when I placed the bootable usb, it started continuing the windows 7 installation. After that was done, I placed the hdd back and the computer restarted hurray!
However it instantly gives a blue screen and restarts.

Then I reinstalled windows again from usb and everything works now. The only thing here is I didn't download the correct version of windows. But for the most part this problem is solved.
