Hi, I have a gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3 motherboard, that had 8gb of ram on it.

I decided a few days ago I wanted to max out the ram on it to 32gb, so went online and this pack

http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/ga-78lmt-usb3/CT3603061

They arrived today, so I took out my old sticks of 2x4gb and put all 4 of these in.

Computer started but didnt do anything, so I figured maybe one of the sticks was dead, so I:
- unplugged 3 of them and the computer started fine.
- added a second stick, computer fine
- added the third stick and computer doesn't start
- tried the other stick in its place, computer doesn't start.

Ive tried using the last two sticks on their own and they work so I know all the rams fine.

When I try using just slots 3 and 4 the computer wont start, but if I put my old 4gb sticks in slots 3 and 4 then the computer is fine.

And if I put 2x8gb in slots 1 and 2, and the old sticks in 3 and 4... computer works but reads 18gb instead of 24gb, which is weird to me

So I don't think there's any physical fault going on with either the board or my new sticks, but I can't figure out whats going on, its been a long time since Ive really messed around with components like several years in fact.

My old sticks are 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 1.5v

My new sticks are 1600mhz 8-8-8-24 1.35v

Are there any Bios settings I might need to adjust to get the system to recognize the extra Ram

Cheers in advance anyone who answers

And apologies now - its been a long time so a lot of jargon will go over my head haha

Solution
Give Win 10 a try, depending on what CPU you have, you will prob need some adjustments to run a full load of 32GB, AMD CPUs are optimized toward a 2 stick setup so may need additional DRAM and/or CPU/NB voltage (to feed your MC (memory controller)

What OS are you running? You're probably using Windows 7 Home Edition or something. Well there's limits on how much RAM it can take.

Starter: 8GB
Home Basic: 8GB
Home Premium: 16GB
Professional: 192GB
Enterprise: 192GB
Ultimate: 192GB

Go for Windows 8.1 instead , since Many people had problems with windows 10 Like high CPU/HDD Usage with many bugs . However , You can do it , I'm just giving you a suggestion that Windows 10 give many problems to those who upgrade from whichever OS , not while installing a fresh copy in a new HDD .

He would have to pay for that though, wouldn't he? Paying for an old OS, which in itself isn't even popular either.

according to dxdiag its an AMD FX -6350 six core processort (6 cpus) 3.9ghz

I am thinking windows 10 will probably be the answer, My dad reckons I should just get the professional version of windows 7 cause "windows 10 is crap" but I am thinking, whats the point in paying for another operating system if I can one free from microsoft hehe
