Hi guys,

Im new to this forum. Im building a second gaming PC of mine and my question is that I already own a Cooler Master GX2 - 550Watt Power Supply. I have Read that the 660TI power supply minimum requirements are 450Watts, and that 500watt PSU is probaly a stretch. My questions is, Is 550GX2 Coolermaster (bronze I think it is) suffice to run:

AMD Phenom 2 1100T
Not sure the Mobo
1XSSD
1XWestern DIGITAL HD
1X660Ti (will not be overclocking the card).

Am i being paranoid, or should i not buy a 660Ti and go for something like a 750Ti with less power usage and be safer? I dont know if 550Watt is pushing it as I would like/allow breathing room for the psu and not having it pushing its power usage.

Regards,

Daniel

cooler master doesnt make power supplies, they put their name on them

so many cooler master power supplies end up being junk, because they are made by chinese companies with junk components, companies that also LIE about their wattage and efficiency ratings

you want a GOOD 550w power supply, tier 1 or 2 unit from this list:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

as you can see cooler master gx II is a tier 3 unit

I owne a Crosair RM1000i for my 980Ti build, I know a good powersupply. But my proposition for this computer is going to be used once a month. It is a second gaming reg for when I play on a local network (gaming) once in a while. I surely would have thought a Tier3 - GX550 Cooler master would be suffice to manage a single Gtx 660ti. I didnt want to have to fork out more money on a computer that is going to be hardly used, and if its going to make a significant improvement. BUt, If you guys are saying this PSU is so shit..where as I read on other forums this PSU is more than enough for a 660Ti. Ill take you word for it and buy a better model.

What about this:
CoolerMaster G Series 600W PSU 80+Bronze

This shop only sells Coolermaster PSU's... They are quite good to deal with but I dont have time to go somewhere else that all. What do you think of the G series compared to my GX 550?

their V and VS are the only good units they have

the rest are meant for office pc's, utterly inadequate for a gaming system

never cheap out on the heart of your computer

up to you to ignore what has been said

I resepect and will take the advice. Thing is, I do Gym afterwork and Dont have time to build my pc. I can do it, and have done it many times on my system builds but not this week. I need to give them a PSU today so just need some answers quickly. I totally respect what was said and have decided not to go ahead with the GX 550.

In that said. My options are only corsair, Coolermaster V series and some other brands. XFX that was mentioned I cannot Buy.

I would like a 600Watt PSU but something not to expensive. Can you guys recommend me anything>?

My plan was to go and Buy a corsair RMI or RMX and drop it off to this computer shop that is building me the PC. I think it might just be easier and go with the CoolerMaster V. Do you think I should spend the Money on the CoolermasterV or go with the RMI or RMX? Sorry for all the questions. I just want a solid PSU build for this PC/ And totally respect your advice guys. I just now been turned off Coolermaster now from the previous posts thats all.

Either way you should be fine as they are all good choices. Personally I would probably go for one of the Corsairs.

There is a review of the GX ii 750W: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=353

Old group regulated design, bunch of Teapo caps. Pretty solid ripple. Voltage regulation meh. It's a meh unit, the 550W is most likely judging off the 750W at least. I never like hardOCP reviews because they were notorious for using software to measure voltages, I recall reading a review from them where they go, "We got a multimeter! We got a lot of complaints." Unless I'm confusing them with another site, but 90% sure it's them.

Totally understand. Can someone get back to me in regards to the corsair CX 650 Watt? Any good. That Hierachy says its a Tier4, can that be right giving its an expensive psu? and that its GOLD rating

It's not good. If you want a quality 650W unit, the EVGA P2 650W runs super cheap and is insanely good.

the tier is right, cx are not for gaming systems

ratings mean nothing when the internals are garbage and it dies shortly after you buy it

price has nothing to do with quality, there are some greedy companies out there
