So be forewarned I'm definitely a novice when it comes to building computers. I built a desktop many years ago but when I got a nice laptop I kind of kept the desktop to the side in favor of the laptop. Now here I am, building another desktop using several components(Harddrive, Graphics Card) from my old desktop.

My motherboard:
Fatal1ty 787X Killer

My CPU:
Intel i7-4790 3.6Ghz

Here's the background of the issue: The harddrive of the old desktop is currently the primary harddrive of my new desktop. The old desktop ran on Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64 bit and I have the installation CD/CD key for that OS. Being the cheap bastard I am, I was hoping that I could Install/repair the Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 onto my new desktop and then get that sweet free installation up to Windows 10 afterwards. However the motherboard doesn't have the pin plugin for the old CD drives I have, so I tried to use an external disk drive to run the OS installation CD. I had to change settings in the BIOS to run from the USB Cd drive instead of the HDD.

Here's the issue:
I get to the installation/repair screen for windows with the CD, however once I'm there it says that it can't find the proper components to make an installation and when I try to repair it says I don't have the right CD.

So basically I'm wondering if anyone can suggest to me a possible solution with the info provided. Do I need to download the CD info to a USB flash drive? Should I just grab another HDD? Should I just buck up and buy a new OS? Anyways, thanks for your time. I'll be happy to provide anymore information if needed!
