As the title says, I would like some recommendations for upgrading my PC set up (CPU/Mobo/Ram) for a really cheap price. Right now I am using FX-8350(4.5GHz) with a gigabyte board and 8GB Ripjaws, I am looking for an upgrade path in the Intel side. I plan on keeping my GPU, PSU, and cooler (H100i with intel bracket optional).

I have heard of people choosing Xeons over i7s because of better performance and cheaper price, is this true?

You've got a decent setup , hold off for zen is my advice plain & simple.
Sure you can manage for 6-7 months??

Its not like you're currently running an old corde2duo or similar.
4.5ghz on a piledriver is ok. When i had a piledriver I found it almost impossible to tell the difference between it and an i7 (and it felt better when multitasking then an i5) when it was up around 4.8ghz.

Sure, there are advantages for intel in games, but overall you'll find your money is much better spent on good monitors and gpus then cpu at that level. (BTW: I owned a piledriver overclocked aggressively, and now own a i5-4690k, overclocked as well, Personally I actually miss the 8 core piledriver, for some things its just better then an i5, and having used quad core i7s i actually haven't been impressed either. it takes an overclocked 6 core intel before I stop missing that 8 core piledriver)

Okay okay, callness down... The thing is the only viable path would be skylake i5 6600K with a decent Z170 board for OC purposes. Then you will run DDR4 Memory anyway and then you`ll be stuck again because the only way up from there is a i7 6700K and then your totally maxed in that department.
