Hi,

I currently have the below config and want to upgrade almost all the components. I usually use my machine for more than 6 years:

Core 2 quad 8400 2.66 Ghz
Intel motherboard
4 gb ddr2 ram
Nvidia 650ti with 1 gb ram from zebronics
2 tb wd digital hard disk
Cooler Master 212X cooler
21.5 inch Dell led
500 watts VIP power supply

I am going with the Intel i5 6600K processor
1. Which Motherboard would you suggest (Z170 chipset) considering that I am not going to use SLI. Also, it should have good after sales support in Mumbai, India. I am looking for something in the range of the Gigabyte Gaming 5 MB.
2. Is the Samsung EVO 850 500GB good or would you suggest any other primary drive? I will keep my OS (am having windows 7 right now), applications and games on this disc. I already have a 2 TB HD for my other data.
3. Which RAM is better: Kingston Hyper fury (8GB X2) or Ripjaws?
4. Is 500 watts of power supply enough?
5. I am thinking of getting a Cooler master k380 case. Any other better suggestions?

Regards,
Amit

Maximus mobos are amazing, but seems a little overkill if you don't want SLI/Crossfire in future, but yes, they're a good brand of mobos. i own a gigabyte and i love it! But its your choice.

About 650Ti with 500W, you will be plenty fine, including maybe you can do a little OC to the CPU if you can, but think twice, be sure the PSU is a trusted one and certified.
1) Z* mobos are fine, but do you want to OC the CPU? If yes, then Z170 mobo will be plenty fine.
2) 500GB for SO? Well, yes, but with 128gb you will be fine.
3) Depends, if its for gaming i feel comfortable with G.Skill (i own Sniper's series and love it!)
4) Again, depends which is your whole system to build (post it here the components you have in mind)
5) Pick whatever you like ,but see reviews before buying AND look the specs from the component. (Ex: If you want to install a H100I Cooling check if it fits in the case).

Hi lucas_7_94,

Thanks for the quick reply.

1) I may overclock the CPU in the future. Any particular board which you will suggest?
2) 500 GBs for OS and application (like lightroom, etc) and games too. Will use the SATA only for storage. I may bring this down to 256 depending on how much of the budget is left after buying everything else.
3) Yes for gaming. Will check the sniper series.
4) For now, the system have the Zotac 650Ti, Coolermaster 212X and the 2TB harddisk from the previous build. Everything else will be new.

Regards,
Amit

One more thing, I know that the Nvidia 650 Ti will be the first component to grow old in the new build and so I would need a motherboard and power supply which could support a newer graphics card in the future and not only the 650Ti.

1) I read a lot of good comments about ASUS Z versions, they seems to be the best to OC.
2) If you budget can affort 500GB SSD, don't think twice.

Now, answering point 4 and the post before this.

500W will do the job fine with your current card, but, like you said, if you want to be safe for futures GPU, 650W will be amazing.

Now, looking for future cards AND the idea that you want to OC the CPU, i highly recommend (stay with 650W if you pick an nvidia card / 700W or higher if you go for AMD cards) from a trusted brand PSU (XFX - Seasonic - EVGA -SuperNova-).

Ask again if you still have question! Un saludo!

1. I shall check the ASUS motherboards. Is it worth going in for the Maximus range? Any recommendation from Gigabyte? May go for GB if ASUS is not available.
2. okay.
4. If I stay with the 650Ti for now, is it safe to stay with the 500 watts power supply? I shall upgrade that when I go for a newer display card.

Amit

Sorry for the late reply. Have been away from home for a long time.
I finally bought the following components:
Intel 6600K processor
Asus Ranger VIII motherboard
8 X 2 GB GSkill 3000 RAM
500 GB Samsung EVO
Nvidia 650ti with 1 gb ram from zebronics (already had this)
2 tb wd digital hard disk (already had this)
Cooler Master 212X cooler (already had this)
21.5 inch Dell led (already had this)
500 watts VIP power supply (already had this)

I am facing a lot of issues with this build. I shall open a new post for that.

Amit
