I require ability to track my bandwidth usage (daily stats). We have multiple systems (Windows & Android) connecting to internet. I understand router is the best place to do this.

After some research I came across DD-WRT firmware (I have rooted and loaded custom ROM's on couple of my android devices).

1. Are there any alternative solutions to this reflashing route?
2. Is it recommend me flashing my modem/router with DD-WRT?

Solution
DD-WRT is a very safe and well made firmware, no risk there as long as it's listed in the compatibility list of their site. If you want something more advanced, get a mikrotik router or install it as a virtual machine, those have lots of metrics and will allow you to do even more than what DD-WRT can do. It is a little bit more complex though.

Thanks.

Since mine is a router and modem together, will that be an issue?
If I remember, i had come across a post long back here, where it was mentioned DD-WRT was specifically for Routers only, and NOT for devices that are routers + modems.

Can you or someone confirm on this?

Yes, as you said it's meant for routers. Also, it seems like it's not compatible according to the device list in their site. Do you have any spare computer that you could turn into a router? That could give you better results if using mikrotik or pfsense.

That's not a feasible solution.

Currently I am using - NetWorX. This only works on Windows OS (Not with android), devices where I install it. It syncs data from all Windows PC's.

But it does not have android support.
