Hi,
I have recently bought new RAM from here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EUPV2RQ/ref=cm_wl_huc_continue
as I saw it was cheap and a friend recommended it. The memory works fine and i have inserted into the correct DIMM slots as instructed on my motherboard: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B75MA-P45.html#hero-overview

The BIOS correctly recognizes the modules and even the XMP loads up the right specs for it as you can see in the images.

The problem is i cannot set the frequency higher than 1600mhz despite the MSI website clearly showing that it is possible on 22nm CPUs (with OC of course). Should I change the BIOS version (it is already latest one) to an older version? I would really like the higher frequency (is it even gonna make a difference in benchmarks, rendering, games etc?)

Thanks

Specs:
i7-3770 (non-k)
16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400MHz
MSI B75MA-P45
MSI GTX970
Samsung 850 Evo 256GB
Seagate Barracuda 1TB

Solution
that board is not designed to auto over clock, you will have to put in all the memory timings manually for the most part, some features will use auto
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B75MA-P45.html#hero-specification
Note: DDR3 1600 MHz memory support vary based on the Intel® Ivy Bridge processors use
• Memory speed support beyond 1600MHz are provided on some 3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3770K CPUs. This will vary based on quality of CPU.

the memory will go higher manually the cpu is not a K series and will not go higher in it's fsb despite faster memory unless there is a bios update the works around intels restriction

One thing you can try ..or rather only thing i can think of ...which should work ... Reset the BIOS by that i mean remove the CMOS battery ...let it rest for a few seconds or a minute and reconnect the battery and try again.

Unfortunately it did not work. If you look at the Bios image there is a My OC Genie Option and if I click on that it displays a blank page as if something is missing. Also there is no setting to change bclk which i thought should be present in all motherboards.

I was afraid that would be the case. So if (hypothetically) I had an i7-3770k would I be able to raise the frequency or would a better motherboard with a different chipset work on my i7-3770?

Also, I have these other BIOS options, posted in images below, are the settings for optimal performance or should I change anything?
I altered the timings on the RAM such that I have command rate of 1, and 7-8-8-20 (runs stable) but the rest I am clueless about, should I keep them the same or play around until i get the minimum?

I benchmark on cinebench and right now I am getting ~652 whereas on 1333mhz memory i had 594, but the benchmark shown for a standard i7-3770 is 662. I also noticed that CPU-Z reports back a frequency of 3.7 even on 100% usage but the ratio in bios is 3.9. wtf?
