I have a bunch of old comics I want to scan for my personal use before selling them. I have an old Canon flatbed scanner and am wondering if a newer scanner would be faster, but I find scanner speed specs don't tell the whole story. Reviews on my old scanner say it will scan a color page in 15 seconds. But if I want to scan a page at 300dpi, from the time I click on the Scan button on my computer, it takes about 35 seconds for the scanner to engage, scan and return to its initial position. I'm looking at the Canon LIDE 220 which claims 10 second scanner speed. Can anyone tell me what it's real speed is using the criteria I just mentioned? If I could find a faster scanner, it would be nice. Thanks.

Or if you could just tell me what some of your scanner speeds are, measured as above, that would help me know if buying a new one would speed up the process.

Solution
Any USB 3.0 scanner will be faster than your old scanner, provided your PC has USB 3.0 ports of course.

other factor of course is the PPI setting when scanning -- you don't need 300 PPI for comics, that's only for photo scans. 200 ppi should be sufficient for comics.
