Hi everyone,

I've been using an Xbox One controller to play some games on my PC for a few months now without any problems. I tried adding a second controller (my roommate owns an Xbox One which is where these controllers are coming from), but I can't get my computer to recognize it. I tried different USB ports and turning it on before plugging it in but just can't seem to get the second controller to work.

The first controller works fine, but this second controller just won't get recognized. Its still synced to the Xbox One and maybe thats the problem, but I can't get it to unsync. I have the drivers for Xbox One controller support as well.

I connect them both with a MicroUSB cable.

And I also want to clarify that Xbox One controller #2 does not work regardless if the other controller is plugged in or not-- whereas Controller #1 always works it seems (although it does have disconnection issues at times but that's a different problem entirely). And I'm using Windows 7

I just tested both controllers on my roommates Laptop running Windows 8 and they both work. Afterwards I plugged them both in my PC again and still only Controller #1 works.

Controller #1 is model 1537
Controller #2 is model 1697 and has the 3.5mm headphone jack

So i dunno.. my thoughts so far are either

Something is wrong with my computer/driver

Controller #2 (model 1697) is incompatible with Windows 7 for some reason (but I'm sure I would know about this if it were the case)

or maybe there was a firmware update on the Xbox One that messed/fixed one of the controllers.

ugh

Ok I just found an answer off some random comment on a youtube page. Here is what it stated:

Go to Device Manager ->
Double Click "Controller" ->
Click on "Update Driver Software..." ->
Click on "Browse my computer for driver software" ->
Click on "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" ->
Highlight "Show All Devices" -> Click "Next" ->
Click on the Button "Have Disk..." -> In the Popup Window, click on the Button "Browse" ->
Browse to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Xbox One Controller for Windows\" and select "xb1usb.inf" and click open ->
Click on OK -> Highlight "Microsoft Xbox One Controller" and click "Next" ->
Ignore the System message click on "OK" ->

So for some reason I had to manually install the driver for Controller #2 even though Controller #1 was working. It was showing up as "Controller" and unidentified in Device Manager.
