Im moving in a week, so Ill be switching from Comcast to Mediacom. My plan will be the fastest they offer in that area at 100mbps (were in the outskirts of Minneapolis by Lake Minnetonka). Im looking for a cable/modem router that is DOCSIS 3.0 compatible w/802.11ac WiFi. Ive basically come up with these 3 options.

Netgear AC1750

Netgear N450

My biggest concern is connection and signal, Ive read some of the reviews but wanted to get some feedback from the Toms community. 2 story, traditional home. We'll set up additional AP. 4k streaming, gaming etc.

Is there anything new coming out soon? Modem/routers seem to change once every few years and dont get updated very often so I havent been able to find much in news but maybe something flew under the radar at CES or other show.

As always, any feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Location, location, location.
Do NOT put the main WiFi source in the basement, as a lot of people want to do. The 'media room' for instance.

Have the main WiFi source near the canter of the house.

Which router?
I've heard good things about the Nighthawk series from Netgear.
I'm using the NetGear N500 and find it to be a quality unit. I'd stay away from integrated router/wifi, they tend to perform poorly compared to a dedicated router. Buy a dedicated one, it's well worth it. On the other hand the DOCSIS 3.1 modems are going to start to come out soon but it will be a while before anyone supports it or charges sane prices for the bandwidth.
