Why doesn't this computer run games like Rust smoothly

My computer which is an Intel Core i7 3.6 ghz, 8 gb of ram and a gt 720 graphics card has troubles running a lot of games like Rust, The Culling, Reign of Kings, at a decent frame rate. I usually have to drop all my settings to the lowest to get anything playable. Any tips on what I need to upgrade or problems that could cause this?

You need a proper graphics card.

It's probably the graphics card, although I think the 720 should run it. A cheap upgrade would be going to a GTX 750Ti. It shouldn't require a power supply upgrade and will give a significant boost.
