Hi,
Im looking around to buy a new motherboard to upgrade from a amd processor to a intel. The motherboard im looking at has ddr4 ram and i have ddr3 and it has 4 slots for 64gb of ram. I was wondering because im on a tight budget if i can only buy 1 8gb stick and i was wondering if that would work becuase 64/4=16gb. Basically can i put a 8gb stick into a 16gb slot?

Solution
There is no such thing as a 16 GB slot; RAM slots do not have specified capacities. So yes, an 8 GB stick will work fine, although using 2 sticks is usually preferred for the sake of running dual channel (increases bandwidth).

So they dont have a slot limit. So when it says 64gb memory is that the max because the max ram stick is 16gb?

Also instead of one 8gb stick it is better to get 2 4gb sticks?
