Hi,

I downloaded what I thought was an updated Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology Driver but have realised it is the same as I have already. Before realising this I went to install it and it prompted me to either uninstall the current version or do a repair. I chose to uninstall thinking that that must be what was needed to install the newer version but when I open up the setup exe again to try and install it I am prompted with the same options as before, to either remove or repair and no option to actually install it.

Seems a bit bugged or something. How can I reinstall the Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology Driver?

Solution
If the driver that Windows was using was corrupted, it's unlikely that you could get into Windows. It would likely BSOD as soon as the driver loaded during the boot process. It certainly wouldn't be stable once you hit the desktop.

Try this, open Device Manager, go to the Properties of your Intel 9 Series yadda yadda, click the Driver Tab, then click Update Driver. Browse My Computer > Let me pick... > Standard SATA AHCI controller > Next.

This will switch to the MicroSoft AHCI driver. Not sure if it will ask to do a reboot (it's likely), if not, do one just to be safe.

Then try to install the IRST software again.

The repair doesn't work, there is an error: "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it."

Intel driver tool didn't pick it up.

Is this the driver under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers?

I have Intel 9 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller.

I'm pretty sure Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver Software is actually a software though as it seems to be missing from my taskbar tray since I uninstalled.

The driver portion of the IRST is there since you see the Intel 9 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller in the Device Manager. The application part might be missing, though it functions primarily as a information only app. There is very little control for IRST within the software and having it doesn't improve or impede performance.

As I recall the IRST looked like this

I believe there are some options of benefit in the software, just seems strange I can't reinstall it from the driver I downloaded.

There is some management within the IRST application, but it's more for RAID, which I assume you aren't using. In AHCI, about the only thing you can do is disable Link Power Management under Performance.

Anyway, have you had a look in Programs and Features to see if it's shown there. If it's there, uninstall it. Then just for sh1ts and giggles, reboot and then try and re-install.

I missed this one. IRST shouldn't interfere with your DVD drive at all. Does it no show up under DVD / CD-ROM Drives in the Device Manager?

It it's not there, that seems to me more like a connection or drive problem. I would think its something physical and not software related.

Yip, this is the one I downloaded. This is the one that is giving the fatal installation error.

The application part might only provide information but the point is I'm concerned that the IRST is corrupt..
