Yesterday, I was in a rush and I left my phone charging in my pillow. When I came back, the phone was VERY hot. It still worked but the battery stopped at 55%. I was gone for 2 hours so it would have fully charged by now. I let the phone cool off and I reconnected it to charge. But then I noticed it takes 10 minutes just for 1%! I let my phone fully charge for the next day, and then the battery dropped 3% before leaving my door. It already dropped 2% by the time I finished typing this. Help!

Solution
Phones tend to stop charging if they get too hot.
The problem in your case is, as you might have noticed is that the battery doesn't charge up as it should and doesn't keep said charge either.
Since M8 is not really openable and battery is not really changeable by end user, you are left with few choices:
Backup ALL you want, now, just in case things go belly up.
Use the phone until battery falls down to 20% or so.
try to charge again. If it wont work, it's broken and you need to choose between servicing it or new phone.

In theory, it might be some new app using WAY too much power, there have been few faulty ones before, you could try disabling all apps in settings to stop them from running. (closing them wont help, they might relaunch...

as example, easypark app (for parking) used to do it at one point but not anymore, up to 35 to 40% of charge gone in hour without EVER even opening the app. (disabling it helped)
