I have a WD My Passport 0748 2TB external HD that stopped working. When I plug it in to my PC it's recognized as a device but I can not see it in windows explorer. Also, it seems that it is working but after 2 or 3 minutes it makes a beep and 2 minutes later another beep and It doesn't seem to be working anymore. Any ideas?

Welcome to the TH community, Guasti!

I'm sorry to hear about your noises coming from the WD My Passport. :( Unfortunately, they might be indicating internal/hardware damage. I'd advise you to try using a different USB cable and even try plugging the external to a different computer to see if you'd be able to access your data. You should check how the HDD is recognized in Disk Management and try to change the drive letter. This might help you access the drive from Windows Explorer and backup your files ASAP! Afterwards, I'd recommend you run the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics for Windows and find out what is the health and SMART status of the drive.

I'd also suggest you...

I'd also suggest you check the warranty status of the WD My Passport HDD on our website and see if it's still covered.
