Asrock extreme 6/3.1 USB...what makes the 3.1 good

I just had a question about that 3.1 USB card for that mobo.When i put this comp together was so anxious to see the graphics and how i ran my games i decided to put that 3.1 USB card in later.Wound up,later is like 4 months later.I think i seen something on that it can charge a phone faster...is that true? are their any other benefits for having USB 3.1?I actually installed the card and it didn't even ask for an update.
