C Drive Cloned to Another Drive Have Different Size

I have 2 drives, the boot drive (C) is a SSD that is 500gb. The second drive is a 1TB drive.

I cloned my SSD to my 1TB drive so that I can have a backup boot drive. After the clone was done both SSD and the 1TB drive have 451gb (spaced used and free). The issue is the free space.

Of the 451gb partition for each drive, the SSD drive has appx. 221gb of free space but the 1TB is showing 256gb. That's a difference of 35gb.

Why the difference?

Here's a link to a screen shot of my drives:

UPDATE: the space I was referring to above is actually free space and not spaced used. I have updated my post to reflect that.

The way hard drives are formatted is different that SSDs so some data actually takes up more space on a hard drive or and SSD because the in a way the smallest block of data the drive can store is larger than some files so the files have to take up the whole block of data even if they are smaller than it. This is what I think is going on. Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks for the response. I am guessing somewhat the same thing as you are but I had made a mistake in my post and have since edited my post. The SSD is basically using 230gb of storage whereas the cloned drive is only using 195gb of storage. Again, that's a 35gb difference.

Thank you.

Hmm almost seems like some of the data didn't get cloned.. What did you use to clone the drive?
