I have recently purchased a few components to build myself a new rig.
Once I have assembled the machine, I have failed to install any OS (Ubuntu 15.10, Windows 10 64bit Home Edition). Windows install failed due to system services crashing, with ubuntu I got obscure issues telling that writing it failed to read from the install media.

I checked, and neither the target install media nor the usb stick I attempted the install had any errors. I have disassembled the whole build and confirmed that both the CPU and mother board pins are in good condition (not bent) and that the memory modules are installed correctly.

I have ran a series of test with Memtest86 and had varying results:

(I have 4x4GB Hyperx Fury Black kit, further HW details below)

1. single modules tested ok with complete test suite in all slots both in parallel and single core tests
2. All combination of dual channel installations passed complete test suit both in parallel and single core tests
3. test showed numerous errors when all modules were installed in parallel tests
4. test showed numerous errors when only 3 modules were installed in parallel test

BIOS settings were left on default, I have not yet attempted to OC

Here is the full HW configuration

  • ASRock Z170 Extreme4+
    Kingston HyperX FURY Black Series - DDR4 - 16 GB : 4 x 4GB (HX426C15FBK4/16)
    Samsung 250GB 850 EVO Series
Corsair 1000W RM1000 RM Series Power Supply
Intel Core i5-6600K Unlocked 3.50GHz 6th Gen Skylake CPU Socket1151 Quad Core 3.5GHz/3.9GHz Turbo
CoolerMaster Hyper TX3 Evo - 3 Heatpipe, Tower CPU Cooler
    MSI Radeon R9 390 Gaming 8GB Twin Frozr V FAN DX12 PCI-E 3.0

Anybody any ideas? :)

This is my cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper TX3 Evo - 3 Heatpipe, Tower CPU Cooler

I have checked to see if everything sits well with the cpu, but I gave it one more go. Unfortunately results are the same.
I have also ran Intel CPU diagnostics, but no errors were detected (this is with all four memory units installed). At this point I'm thinking it's either the MB or the RAM.
