Hello,

My current PC specs that has been with me since late 2012...

Intel Core i7 - 3770K @ 3.5GHz
Asus Sabertooth Z77 [BIOS 1015, 05/02/2012]
DDR3 16GB 1600 - G SKILL
ASUS GTX 670

I have been thinking of rebuilding a new PC however would upgrading my graphics card only be worthwhile?

I am planning on getting GTX 980 Ti would my current PC be able to work the new card @ 100% and are there any limitations to upgrading just the card or should I consider MB/CPU.

Eventually (6-8 months) I am planning to SLI so i may need to get new MB and CPU...

The reason for upgrading is gaming currently getting 20FPS on new games like The Division.

Also... I am experiencing random internet dropouts (LAN connection shows no cable connected) but after few mins it rectifies it self. I have confirmed the dropout is not due to modem (asking housemate who was in-game same time when issue occurs).

I thought it may be issue with the cable however I have a really old USB Wifi adaptor that allows me to connect to my modem wirelessly ( dropouts noticed also but not as much)

I will change my ethernet cable again to see if it cable issue however is there a diagnostic test that can be run to see of the LAN component on MB is causing this?

Thank you

Agree with the others, there's no need to upgrade the CPU/MB/RAM, the current parts are plenty strong enough.
Moving up to a GTX980Ti will be a huge upgrade, though: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/gpu-hierarchy,review-33383.html probably more than the 4 tiers improvement would suggest, Nvidia don't seem very keen on keeping the drivers for their older cards as optimised as they could.
Wait for Pascal/Polaris if you want, but there's no solid release dates for either, just rumours: http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/rumor-geforce-gtx-1080-8gb-gddr5x-based-on-pascal-gpu-in-may.html

A 3770k is Ivy Bridge. It has 4 cores, 8 threads. Games usually use 4 cores. You will get great framerates with it, but don't expect them to be anywhere near as good as with a processor like the 6700k

your 3770k is far from being old. Its even by todays standard a VERY capable cpu that wouldn't gain much going to a new skylake or haswell or devils canyon. Just upgrade your gpu and the rest of your system still has at least 3 years left in it performance wise. My i5-2500k still out performs anything team red has out and still scores high in tests. Plays all current games without issues so your 3770k is still a beast of a cpu.

Depends on what you consider as big. A video by Digital Foundry who does a lot of great benchmarks for example shows that in The Witcher 3, the 6700k gets a good 10 FPS lead. It gets even better from there. Far Cry 4 had a 30 frame lead when I paused. Don't get me wrong though, the 3770k will barely bottleneck, it's just the new processors do just the opposite.

farcry getting 30 fps difference from a 3770k and a 6700k is extremely hard to believe. Regardless os what DF did. My 2500k (which is less than a 3770k) performs almost exactly on par when overclocked to 4.2-4.5ghz with a 4770k and 4790k in game performance so for a 6700k to blow away a 3770k as much as you are saying DF (whom i trust about as far as i can throw a 500lb fat man) just doesnt even make sense. DF does some sketchy reviews and again like i said i wouldn't trust to take out my trash. There are so many factors that come into play when benchmarking games and hardware. 30fps difference IMO is a load of crap....no offense to you.
