Ok so I just installed a new strix 980ti ( old gpu was a asus 280x )

On my old gpu I was getting solid 60 fps on 1080 where as now im stuck on 30 fps on 4k, 2k and 1080 resolutions ( 4k tv ) using all the same ultra/high settings I did with my old 280x.

Also my tv goes to a no output screen once I boot up witcher 3 since writing this :/

Edit: Seems setting it to 1080 gets it to solid 60 and doesn't crash on ultra... but I can't put the resolution higher than 1080 on a 4k screen

I've uninstalled the previous drivers through the control panel also.

All help would be appreciated!

My rig is

I7 4770k
Geforce gtx strix 980 ti
8gb ram

Solution

Set the resolution to 4K, then under display settings click display adapter properties, you'll find this under advanced display settings if on windows 10, then go to the Monitor tab, you should be able to set the refresh rate. See if it will let you choose 60 Hertz. Hope this helps.

Well Samsung in all their glory calls it CMR instead of anything usefull as in actual refresh rates and just says it has a CMR of 240 whatever that means. Either way from a bit of googling it appears it can run @60fps, maybe. So for the moment I'd say it's a cable issue.

Well I've ordered a 2.0 hdmi from amazon for 6 pounds(28 pounds without amazon prime! ), should arrive tomorrow.

I will update on performance tomorrow.

Fingers crossed!

Had a look at the ports and display port doesn't seem to be on there, definitely would of been my go to type of connector after doing some research though!

darn. anyways a good quality hdmi 2.0 cable should fix the problem, as suggested above that appears to be whats causing the issue.

Got the 2.0 hdmi and set it to 2560x1440 res and I'm back to being locked at 30 fps so if it's not the cable I'm at a loss!

Anyone know why else this could be happening?

Yeah, right click on the desktop and click change resolution. After choosing the resolution find the link that says something along the lines of Advanced Settings or Display Adapter Settings and it should bring up a window where you can change the refresh rate. I used to have this exact issue when I used a TV for my computer.

Changed the settings to 60 hertz and I'm still locked at 30...

This is getting rather tedious now!

Edit: taking v sync off pushes it up to 60 but I get tearing so I'm not sure if that's a step closer to solving it!

If you get tearing try using the Frame Rate Limiter in GeForce experience and set it to 60 FPS target.

So far this seems like a problem with the TV, try putting the game into borderless windowed mode and see if it will work with VSync then.

Sorry man, I'm out of ideas. The 980ti supports HDMI 2.0, you have a 2.0 cable, and as far as I can tell, the TV supports 4K @ 60Hz. My last guess is to check the back of the TV and see if any of the HDMI ports are labeled for 4k @ 60Hz.

Hey guys

So I finally got it working and here's what I did

Through nvidia control panel i set my resolution to the native 4k res and put the hrtz to 60 and now it stays around 40 fps on ultra in novigrad!
Added with a bit of adaptive v sync ofcourse.

So thanks for all the help everyone!

i was going to suggest this in nvidia control panel but i saw above someone mentioned doing the same thing to the hrtz in your display settings so im wondering if nvidia's control panel overwrites that possibly?
