This is a build i made a few months ago for my brother, he might finally buy it so i just want to make sure i didn't forget anything or made any mistake.

Also, how do i know if i need better cooling. we're planning on using his old case with the fans we already have, but i don't know if they'll be enough (recommendation for relatively cheap, decent fans are welcome).

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Blue 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 390 8GB Video Card
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Hard drive: My brother's old one, after we format it.

Thank you in advanced.

You get the same brand and model. There is nothing wrong with it and is done, and has been done for decades.

If budget allows he goes 16gb now, if not he goes 1x 8gb now , and adds another 1x 8gb (of exactly same type) later
I think 550W is pushing it. My system pulls around 420 from the PSU under full gaming load, slightly more if stress testing. You CPU might pull less than mine, but will be similar. I'd want 600W or more for a 390 build.

That 390 puts ALOT of heat into the case, I recommend a good sized case, excellent cable management and 2x intake and 2x exhaust fans minimum.

Any reason just one stick of RAM? Id recommend two for dual channel, makes a slight difference in gaming and moderate difference in memory heavy apps. No reason not to.

Get the new 6 series CPU and DDR4. Prices arent much different. Theres a good chance DRR4 will last you many years & builds. This is the last gasps of breath for DDR3. I used the same sticks of DDR3 from 2010 till last year - 3 diff builds.

Say goodbye to old gear & get new.

Thank you both for answering.
I changed some things, the updated build is listed below.

@burgessanthony
Any recommendations on fans and cases? or maybe pointers on how to choose them?
Also, no reason for one stick of ram, so i changed it. Seeing as things seem to be cheaper than they were when i first made this build, i added a third one.

@fredfinks:
I changed the cpu to a 6 series, as you recommended, but will it fit with the 600w psu?
Also, i'm not sure how to pick a ddr4 ram, do you have any recommendations or pointers?

No extra power required for new series.

Crucial 2133mhz DDR4 1x 8gb stick. Later on youll add another 8gb stick for 16gb when its required. That wont be too long.

Crucial, kingston or corsair. Do not get gskill or geil or another other brand.
Crucial and kingston been in the game the longest - decades. Corsair is a newcomer but good. Gskill is low quality in comparsion and much higher rate of failure.
