Hey,

The 980 Ti will work with your current setup, but the Z170 motherboard will NOT. the motherboard you posted it for the LGA 1151 socket, for the new Intel 6th generation processors such as the I7 6700K and the I5 6600K.

But if you are getting a 980 Ti, I would upgrade the CPU also.

You can't use a Intel motherboard with a AMD processor you must buy a socket AM3+ to use with your processor.
For a single 1080p monitor with a 60 refresh rate a 980ti is really not worth buying I would stop at a GTX 980 and running 2 cards is in no way needed.

thanks got ya. Which asus boards are compatible with the 8350 and could be used for sli please? im looking to spend around the £150 - £200 mark I could always upgrade my cpu at a later point. Also would it be worth chaning the gpu im getting to an asus strix ti? would this be a better match?

That CPU is better than the one you have , and the best that you can out in your socket. { AM3+ }
But if you are changing motherboard anyway, I would not buy it. I would either go for Intel Skylake { you will need new RAM } or Intel Haswell-Refresh.
An issue with the 9590 is it's Massive power requirement and Thermal output. For example, an I7 4790k - 88W, and AMD FX 9590 - 220W

That motherboard only supports Intel Skylake CPUs, such as the I7 6700k and I5 6600K etc, so it will NOT work with any AMD chips.

On a side note, the Amazon pricing can sometimes be a bit misleading... For example:
http://www.amazon.com/Intel-I5-6500-FC-LGA14C-Processor-BX80662I56500/dp/B0136JON7M/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1457898426&sr=1-6&keywords=i7+6700k
Initial price listed as $477, but it was only $202 when it was launched!

thankyou for your help its appreciated. would you reccomend this? im looking at eventually running the 980ti's sli. Would this be up to the job? i really only play games like battlefield and cod but who knows with vr just around the corner. is the quad core proscessor not a step down from what i have now? also why would i need new ram?

No matter what you buy DO NOT BUY THAT PROCESSOR. Your power supply will not run that processor and SLI 980ti's.
The massive power draw and cooling you need for it is crazy.

The I7 in that bundle is most definitely not a step down, it is a very large step up. I will have a look for cheaper combinations. One thing to consider with that type of CPU, is that you will require new RAM

I would snatch out your SSD, reload windows on the regular hard drive and sell that PC as a working gaming PC. Then rebuild using your new power supply, and reusing the SSD.
