Hi guys,

I'm moving to an office, and need to buy the hardware for it:D. At this moment a face a problem.
Do I need to buy 2 pc's(one for me one for my partner) or a different solution like a server. I planning to have an own build, or buy it at the store(depending on the price.) at this moment we don't have a lot of money and if we buy 2 i5 pc's in my country the price will be around €/$1500.

So my question is, is there something like a server, that will allow us to work simultaneously work in our own windows enviroment. Our office is small and has 50mb internet connection. I'm a total noob in this area, but a quick learner! I don't want to rely on third party software. We mainly use programs like Office, but can you install different programs easily...Just like a said total noob on this area. The reason why I'm looking into this is because good Intel Xeon Servers are approx $/€600 in my country. So it will save us a lot of money.

Any thoughts are welcome! And appreciated!!!!!:)

Thanks in advance,

Daan

You each are going to want your own machine. What country are you in?

There's no such thing as a single computer that basically runs two versions of Windows on different monitors with separate keyboards and mouses, so you each need your own machine.

Thanks for your quick reply!

The netherlands. The reason I asked it was because of the high price of hardware, high end price is close the middle end hardware price. And I hoped it could be done. We need to use the same programns, both need windows, but apperently that was a dream ;)

Do you have a build in mind yet? That's €750 per machine. If you tell me what stores in the Netherlands are common, I might be able to design two good I5 machines for your usage.

Also, Windows has built-in features where you can share data between the two computers over your local area network.

Thanks for the help, but I can build my own pc as cheap as possible. It just was a shot if anyone knew a cheaper solution than build 2 i5 pc's

You could use thin linux clients if you want (free software minus some config work).

If you must have windows then it is Windows multipoint server but that can only be bought OEM, AER (academic resale) or from a LAR (large account re seller) So pretty expensive there.

Otherwise there is some third party software to make windows thin clients. No first party AFAIK.

Yeah I agree with this, I think the thin client - central server idea is a much better investment than building PCs and a backup server would be.

Ahh ya windows it is then.

And reading back I realized my previous post wasn't clear. By no first party I meant that for software to re-purpose old comps into thin clients. Setting up basic RDP clients is pretty easy from an actual thin client (or was I'm not sure if that has changed with 10)
