Hello,

I've recently purchased a new SSD to benefit from the faster speeds.

Is it possible to do a clean install of Windows 10 onto the new SSD, then delete the OS from my old HDD? I wish to keep my files on the HDD and I don't have the means to back them up.

Many thanks

Solution
Probably the safest and easiest solution:
1. unplug your HDD so you don't accidentally mess things up.
2. plug the SSD in.
3. Install Windows 10 on the SSD.
4. After install is finished plug the HDD back (if the old drive boots windows then in the bios change to the SSD windows 10 as boot drive)
5. Once in windows copy your crucial files across to the SSD
6. Format the HDD to clear all space and use it for large files and backups.

if you dont have a lot of personal files both microsoft and google both have free clound storage. gogole drive is 15g in size. back up your files to google clound then wipe the hard drive and then install windows clean on the ssd then back your file up to the hard drive.

Hey there, secretmachine!

If you wish to save your files, you'd need to backup your HDD's data before beginning the storage upgrade procedure. There are multiple ways for you to do that. You can use DVDs/external HDDs, online cloud storage solutions or use a massive flash drive. When you install Windows onto it, make sure you unplug the HDD, so that you'd avoid the OS confusion. Once you have the OS up and running on the SSD, plug the hard drive back and reformat the whole thing from Disk management. There are various detailed Windows Install & Optimization Guides for SSDs & HDDs you can follow online.

Hope these help you. Best of luck! :)
