Hi guys,

I have an Asrock p67 extreme4 gen3 mobo with an I5-2500k in. Last week i updated my bios to fix a windows 10 issue (windows 10 + my hardware combo makes the task manager display 100% cpu use, no matter what runs) which i came upon by trying to fix my performance issue with a game I used to run without any problems before a patch.
(My monitor was constantly shutting on and off -> in windows event viewer i saw some monitor driver crashing; crashes to desktop, crashes to reboot )

So after googling my issues i found some people who updated their mobo to fix some of those issues.

I used the instant flash function, did the update to 2.10:
- first cycle of updating was succesful -> uefi prompted me to reboot
- second cycle was succesful too -> another reboot
- I enter the Uefi en check things out -> looks different, so update was succesful

The bios update restored all settings to default -> i can't boot because some settings in regard to my SSD are not correct.

So I reboot, go in the UEFI and adjust what i needed to adjust and reboot.
I still can't boot in to windows and now i also cannot enter the UEFI anymore. So i am basically stuck on the asrock splash screen voor 3 - 5 minutes and then continue to failed windows boot.

I tried using a PS/2 keyboard, but to no avail.
I also tried to unhook all other HDD's.

Is there something else i can try?

Many thanks

UEFI-> I'm a bit confused why you can't access this?

It WAS accessible and then all of a sudden is NOT?

Anyway, I believe the issue booting into the OS drive was because you set it to UEFI or Legacy (opposite of whichever it was before).

So yeah, try the CMOS reset if stuck entering the UEFI/BIOS then read your manual and see about UEFI or Legacy. Another possibility is the wrong drive is being booted to (BIOS boot order).

If it's just the wrong BIOS boot order AND you still can't get into the UEFI you can verify that by unhooking all other HDD/SSD drives.

Sorry for the confusing text, english is not my first language.
What you are saying is correct: I was able to access the UEFI after the update. But then the boot failed, because the bios update restored the default settings. I then restored the settings to their - what i thought to be - working state from before and since then, i cannot access the UEFI anymore nor does the windows boot work.

I hope the CMOS reset does help! I can try it out in 2.5 hours :)

Hey guys,

I fixed it!
Thank you photonboy for your suggestion!!! (kinda embarassing that i did not know about the CMOS clearing)

Clearing the CMOS gave me access to the uefi bios again.
I still could not boot into my SSD though... and i could not find it in the boot order or priority screens. I then switched my SSD with my HDD sata port (this made my SSD the disk connected to the SATA2 port and the HDD to the highest numbered port) and switched the sata mode to AHCI again.
Rebooted again and bam! It worked :)

I probably just plugged in the wrong sata cable in my SSD during troubleshooting before.

Though.. it does feel like the boot time is slower now.

Lessons learnt:
- don't update your bios if you do not reaaaaaallly have to
- Clear CMOS when Uefi is acting up
- Write down your Bios user config
- write down which disk was connected to which port when you go troubleshooting
- Don't update your bios ^^

Thanks for all the help!
I picked Photonboy's answer as the solution. The Cmos clearing gave me renewed access to the Uefi.
