Hi All,

First off, thanks for reading this, much appreciated, I have completed the template for upgrade advice below but to make clear, I am looking to upgrade as cheaply as possible to have better support for 4k gaming. So far I have been able to run Bioshock infinate at 30fps in 4k (limited to 30hz until I can get a Displayport to HDMI 2.0 adapter to support 60hz, if anybody has a link please send it my way!) I guess the big question is, is it worth me just buying a new cpu and another radeon r9 280 to crossfire or is there a more intelligent option?

Approximate Purchase Date: End of this month
Budget Range: £200-£250 After Shipping

System Usage from Most to Least Important: 4k Gaming, Game Creation, Movies

Are you buying a monitor: Just purchased Techwood 40AO2USB 40" Smart 4K
Which is a great deal by the way! £249 Link Here

Parts to Upgrade: CPU, PSU, Gfx Card, maybe cooling?

Do you need to buy OS: No, I have Windows 10 installed

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Any trusted site, but in the past have used Overclockers UK

Location: Lutterworth, UK

Parts Preferences: No brand affinity

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Yes Crossfire

Your Monitor Resolution: 4096 x 2140

Additional Comments: I am not sure if I should bother with watercooling? I would prefer a quieter machine.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Preparing for 4k 60fps gaming

Current System:

MB: GA-970A-DS3

RAM: 20GB DR3 672.2mhz DRAM Freq 2214.4Mhz NB Freq

Gfx: Radeon R9 280 Dual-X (Sapphire)

PSU: ZS Series 550w

CPU: AMD FX-4170 Zambezi

Cheers!

Solution
even a 980ti cant handle games at 60fps @ 4k.

By getting 4k youve increased your requirements by a huge, expensive margin.
I dont recommend anyone getting 4k yet unless they want to get very high end cards in SLI/xfire. Huge heat, power draw and chance of microstutter & glitching.

Its why i recommend 32-34" 1440p gaming on a single 980ti or fury.
