How much ram do I need

I have 8gb of ram already and I am thinking of buying 4 more

So my question is
Is 8gb ddr3 ram enough for playing any game and be on skype at the same time?

8 is all your really need, you could go with 16 if it makes you feel better but anything over that is complete overkill for gaming. Also when buying ram buy it in the same pack as in buy 1 pack of 2x8 instead of 2 packs of 1x8 if you choose to not do this then there is no guarantee the ram will work together.

I know exactly what ram I have because I had 4 and bought 4 more recently but I mean do i need any further ram for having my skype/browser open while I am playing a game?

This is what I get with 8. 1080p Dual Monitor

Typical Game usage
A Browser with 2 Tabs. One on Youtube for a Playlist, One on YouTube for my Kid To watch.
Skype
Discord
A Chat Program TS3, Mumble, Vent, Skype... one of these.
Windblows and its Bloatware
Raptr
Overwolf
............
70% Under Full Load

For most users it will be far less.

No you don't and what he is saying is regardless of what type of ram you should always buy from the same package for maximum compatibility. EVEN if you have corsair vengeance and are buying another pack of corsair vengeance. Just get one pack of 16gb and replace current ram.

With that said you really only need 8gb. I have 16gb and have rarely used over 6gb in a game.

Nah, honestly your going to be fine with 8. Unless you want all your dimm slots full for aesthetics there is no real reason for you to except there may be a small could fps (1-3) difference since it would pulling from more channels but nothing noticeable.
